This is an large 18” antique mid Meiji Era (c.1880) Japanese ceramic charger plate with a hand painted design of the three elements of happiness: pine, bamboo and plum blossom. It also has a pair of cranes and tortoise, the elements of eternal life, and a lion.
The "fish eye" unglazed area on the bottom was a unique kiln footing design found on late Edo to early Meiji era pottery
It measures approximately 15.5" in diameter by 2" tall (39 x 5 cm). And weighs over 6lbs.
